Have you ever been to Japan before? I've never been there but if I have the chance I will go there someday to try out their delicious foods. Since I'm in the bay area, I like to go to Sanraku for traditional Japanese food. This restaurant has been around in the city since 1989. I just discovered this restaurant about a year ago, and I must say they have some really good Japanese foods. Here's some of the foods I tried:
To start off with appetizers...
Gyoza (Pork and Vegetables Pot stickers)
These kinds of pot stickers aren't like the typical kinds from Chinese restaurants. They may look like them, but the taste inside the pot sticker is very juicy and the flavoring was perfect. These pot stickers are freshly steamed and then pan fried, giving that crispy and golden brown texture. It even tastes good with or without the Japanese style soy sauce given with the dish. In addition, they wrap some vegetables inside the pot stickers which taste good with the pork because it gives out that moist flavor so it doesn't taste too dry.
SUSHI TIME! Who loves sushi as much as I do? LOL
Maguro (tuna)-Tako (octopus)-Ebi (shrimp) Rolls, served with Miso Soup
When it comes to sushi, California Roll would probably be the kind I eat the most, but since my friend ordered this, I decided to give this a try. It actually tastes pretty good, especially the shrimp kind. The colors of the sushi look really pretty. If you like tuna and seafood, I'd say you try this dish. Since I'm not a fan of tuna and octopus, I think like to eat the shrimp more. Each sushi plate you order it will serve with miso soup. And inside the soup, it comes with the clams, which tastes pretty good. Sometimes the flavoring of the soup tastes too strong. Maybe the chef put too much of the miso paste?
Beef Teriyaki
This dish would probably be my favorite. It is a rib eye steak marinated with teriyaki sauce, and then grilled. I normally like my steak medium to fully cooked, thats why it looks kinda dark when you look at the photo. The steak is juicy and tender, gives out a great full-flavor to it. The taste is absolutely fantastic! It also serves with jasmine rice on the side, and rice really goes well with steak.
Some other dishes I recommend that are not shown in pictures would be the Daily Lunch Specials. Each weekday it serves with different dish at a special price...only $10!
Monday- Genmai Chirashi (sliced fish over brown rice), Salad, Miso Soup
Tuesday- Sashimi Salad, Spicy Tuna Roll (6pcs), Miso Soup
Wednesday- California Roll (6pcs), Chicken Teriyaki, Salad, Rice, Miso Soup
Thursday- Cold Soba Salad (buckwheat noodles), Salmon,Onigiri, MisoSoup
Friday- Curry Rice with Shrimp Cutlet (3pcs), Salad, Miso Soup
I never get to try all five days. When I'm not busy, I usually like to go to the one on Wednesday and Friday because they are serving California Rolls and Curry Rice. ^_^
Overall, this is a really nice restaurant to go to. The service is friendly and helpful. The sushi chefs are very professional. The food taste delicious. If you are thinking about eating Japanese food today, I'd say give this place a try. Here's the address:
