Have you even experienced different eating culture before? Today I am going to introduce you the Kamayan Style in “House of Sisig”. “House of Sisig” is a Filipino restaurant and it is famous on its kamayan style. What is the kamayan style? Kamayan style is basically a Filipino style of eating food with your hands on banana leaves!
We
ordered a dinner set last time and it was my first time of using kamayan style.
It was a really special experience of mixing food together by hands. However,
it is 100% okay if you don’t want to use kamayan style. You can still ask for
plates or like what I did, I asked for fork and spoon. Are you excited?! Let’s
see dishes in “House of Sisig”.
Appetizers—Pulutan
Starting
with a Filipino appetizer! This dish is called Pulutan and contains eggplants,
tomatoes, mangos, onions, and salted duck egg. The sauces are soy fish sauce,
lechon sauce, shrimp sauce, sweet sour sauce, and vinegar sauce. The way of eating
this dish is to mix all the food together and then also with any kind of sauce
you want to add. It is such a special taste of combination of all these food
and sauce mixing together!
Seafood—Tahong
(Mussels sauteed in butter garlic sauce)
After
we finished the appetizer, we had Tahong which is the mussel sautéed with
butter garlic. The mussels are cooked very well and each one of them all has
the sauce on it. I still remembered that we finished the dish like in five
minutes. But watch your mouth, the shells are hot.
We
ordered a dinner set and they were all mixed together in a dish. I list them as
following.
Pork—Inihaw
Or Pritong Pork Chop (Grilled or fried pork chops)
Chicken—Barbecue
(Grilled chicken on skewers)
Seafood—Daing Na Bangus
(Fried, marinated boneless milkfish)
Seafood—Hipon
Al Ajillo (Shrimp and assorted vegetables sautéed with garlic, salt and pepper)
Seafood—Calamares (Crispy
fried squid)
Appetizers—Lumpiang Shanghai
(Crispy deep-fried pork spring rolls)
Wow!
This dinner set is a lot! The fried pork chops are very delicious, tender, and
juicy. I couldn’t stop myself of keep eating it. However, it became a little
bit too greasy so I put some sauce (as I mention before) on it and it became a
complete new taste. You can put some vinegar on the pork chop to make it less
greasy and oily.
Barbeque
chicken is cooked with the special barbeque sauce of “House of Sisig”. It
definitely tastes really good and the chicken is very soft and tender.
As
you can see on the picture, there is a huge fried fish lying in the middle. The
fish is extremely hot when you peel off its skin. The taste of fish meat is
very light but it is one of my favorites from the all. I like to put the sweet
and sour sauce on fish meat because they match perfectly together.
The shrimps
are delicious too, but they are a little bit too salty. However, you can always
put some vinegar sauce to fit into your own taste!
The spring
rolls are good but don’t really have big difference compared to spring rolls at
other restaurants. The squid is a little bit too difficult to eat, because it
is overly cooked and too old. However, others are all very delicious and I
started planning on next visit to “House of Sisig” once I finished the dinner
that day!
Are you
ready for the kamayan style at “House of Sisig”? Are you still thinking about
what to eat today?! Just come to “House of Sisig” to try out these yummy
Filipino foods!
PS: The
restaurant is really small so make a call before you go to save your waiting
time.
